Why We Shop At ALDI… Letting Go of Label Whoring…

So when I thought about writing this quick blog post, I wanted to propose a challenge. To release the oppression of label whoring. Particularly where our food is concerned. Let’s face it… I love the underdog… I am no stranger to the road less traveled. I guess this is why I have become accustomed to not being attracted to labels, as much as I am attracted, to what makes me feel good. Yet often times we get in the bed with these highly visibly branded corporations and don’t know who we are really sleeping with. Like a bad relationship, we stay with them, with the idea that we don’t have other options.

Well I’m here to tell you that it is time to get out of the bed, with the deceptive intelligence of major household brands.

I am not just advocating as a consumer, but as a mother with 3 children… A mother who has been on food stamps… A mother with children who are sensitive to synthetic color dyes (Well most children and and adults are they just don’t know the overarching symptoms of chemical intolerance)… The truth is most of the time, we just go with the flow because, it is easier than meeting resistance. Or being labeled as a person who is poor and unable to afford “major named brand products.”

It wasn’t until one of my good girl friends took me grocery shopping at ALDI. As an adult on public assistance, I was not ashamed… Yet I did not want to relive my childhood either. I was no stranger to being from a family who experienced economic hardship. It wasn’t until that day, I realized the shame I had as a little girl… The exact thing that made me see the benefits of struggling. At the time, my husband and I did not have a car, we had small children, and we were struggling entrepreneurs. No matter how little the pay or frustrating the experience, we learned the value of having more options, even when it appeared we had less.

Just for today, I want to show you two things I have learned, in just one purchase, in this blog post. With the latest GOOD NEWS of Aldi’s commitment to better quality ingredients at a economical price, I am extremely excited to share this with you.

#1 How much we can save when we explore ALL of our options?

#2 How spending more for name brands can be misleading regarding better quality.

Seeing Is Believing.

In these 5 images I want you the reader to observe the ingredients in the products first. Then to see how much you spend on a simple box of breakfast cereal at ALDI compared to Walmart. Last I want you to simply observe your wallet and determine how much you would save on the purchase between Fruit Rounds vs. Froot Loops.

In conclusion of this observation, I want you to comment and share this tid bit of information with your tribe. Remember this post is NOT about shaming… This post IS about building awareness…

#BLABThat as a part of our #Homebirth2Homeschool platform we are sold on the power of child centered investment. It is safe to say that we are a PBS kind of family…

For us… This begins with acknowledging how well we identify, with the needs of our children, our tribe, our community, and then the world at large.

Conclusion

We are a 100% parent led organization, by a husband and wife team of grassroots social entrepreneurs. We strive to maintain a free thinking environment that supports our artistic passions and goals to build our social welfare organization. And because we do everything from home. (i.e.) Homebirth, homeschool, and even work-from-home online, we really value our family life. We enjoy traveling, performing arts, and quality time with our 3 sons. The fact that we are social entrepreneurs, we are focused on community building for a living. It is an experience that we aim to share with our core group of 3000 individuals across the globe. We dream in color and often remember the visions vividly. We set our intentions, these become our goals and we believe in our power to see them manifest. So stay connected to our website and let us know if we inspired you with any of our content… Also feel free to gift us with a colorful DONATION in support to keep our mission going.

Not Your Usual Canvas For Spring Cleaning

Well… Well… Well…

Stomach flu vs. Allergic Reaction

It has been a pretty exciting week! My intuition has been on high frequency, casting new ideas and concepts. Working with my mentors on the power of deliberate intentions. Learning life lessons about my purpose as a wife, mother, and friend. With all of this new moon energy everything was laid out for the perfect Spring Break, right? Well I won’t complain — just not what I expected. Or – Did I?

Clear Observation

Well… the stomach flu hit the children pretty hard this week. It was like a domino affect. First our middle son, then the oldest, and now our toddler. Our children just so happen to be asthmatic, prone to eczema outbreaks, and allergic reactions (food and environmental). My husband and I had talked about doing a spring detox, but procrastination got the best of us. Or – Did it?

Well… when you do a detox you are giving your body the deep clean that it needs to get back on track with optimum flow… Right? Freeing it up from all the trash that you tried so hard to avoid through the winter. Well lone behold, we got the detox, just not the way we expected.

The Mystery Mix

Well… sometimes we let our children try out certain foods. Trail mix is one snack that I like to make on our own… And I use Chex cereal because, they have a gluten-free brand. But this time, we strayed the path for our best health. After a aseries of various symptoms, including gastric upset, diarrhea, and vomiting, I read the back of the bag to see that it contained all the color dyes that we aim to stay clear from. Hey, when you know better, you should do better, right?

A Quick Lesson In Sacral/Solar-Plexus Detox

Well… since we already knew the dangers of artificial food coloring, we had to be accountable of our part in the bad stomach. So we went on to do our detox and energy work. The main focus had been all about intention. What we want for our children is the best so we have to maintain our posture in doing so. No slumping or dragging our feet.

Well… on Wednesday morning as I engaged the children in a bit of music therapy, it became clear to me why the children were having such an experience over the store-bought trail mix. It was simple to me, but I am not a medical doctor, so don’t judge me for “Free-Styling” on what insight I gathered from all this.

Well… as I was singing one of my favorite songs, “Feel So Good” in a chant style rhythm. As I begin to circle my eldest son, while he lay in prone position, I tell him to just relax I gently touch his belly, feeling the low vibrational energy trying to leave his body. I explain to him my own interpretation of his sickness. I tell him the placement of the chakra system in his body. When I stop at his abdominal region, he tells me, “It was the color dyes, huh mom?” I then explain how the human body is not made to consume artificial colors. The body is like a master computer that can only read like programming. The sacral and solar plexus regions of his body were under attack by artificial intelligence.

Well… I go on to tell him that his system had been compromised because, we allowed him to have artificial food coloring. Which he will not have to worry about again. I also explained that these dyes are a contaminant to the human body, and the body reads these as a threat.  I told him, sometimes it takes longer to show up in others, or can sometimes go misdiagnosed as a stomach virus or food poisening — when it can be as simple as an allergic reaction. Like I said, I am no doctor, but I think I’m big on self-directed reserch. Food color can cause allergic reactions that result in similar symptoms as gastroenteritis.

Because gastroenteritis is associated, with viral and bacterial infections, I did not count this out. Be that I have boy children, who are always being told to wash your hands, stay out of your nose, and pants, but little ones are not as concerned, with proper hygiene as we adults are. It was just ironic that they had eaten that (colorful) snack, which later led to a 1, 2, 3 knock out. This led me to the thought that we put out bodies at risk when we step out of alignment, with what is natural and organic. Our seven-year-old sure knows about it now. As he asked me if being sick can be good for you. I answered him by saying, “No one likes to be sick, but sometimes the body needs to reset or (detox) itself , especially when it has had an alien invasion.” Hey, don’t even judge my technique. I have to meet them where they are. The five-year-old and the two-year-old… still have some time to go before they get it… But rest assure that our eldest son will be reading the labels from this point moving forward. —

Get Well ~ Concluding thought:

Parenting is trial and error. There is not a sure shot way to parent your child. We can choose this or that as valid and practical, or magical and whimsical. I just flow with what feels right to me. And when I am out of alignment, I am taught to get right back on track. This can increase ones parenting skills intuitively. Learning that dis-ease, pain, sickness, is a time for rest, resetting our systems, and becoming deeper engaged to the energy that is allowed into your environment, makes a wold of difference. As a parent of children with food allergies, we have learned that not every event is worth the ER.

I can count on my hand how many times we have visited a hospital room for an emergency. As long as we maintain our dietary standards, we are within normal limits of good health. So the next time you think about skipping out on your regular household treats…

… refer back to this blog post and just say, “NO” to artificial food color dyes!

TUESDAY’S TECHNIQUE ~ GET ROOTED IN THE POWER OF CREATIVE VISUALIZATION

COMING OUT OF THE FOG

There are times that I sit and ponder over the life that we have today. The instant moments of sunshine on our faces in the morning. The smell of fresh baby breath asking for more milk. (My baby call’s it Nean). This post drives my passion in several ways and one is for my “Tree-Hugger” husband and his infinite love for creation and his seed. The other is our intuitive, eclectic, concept of empowerment childbirth education. Yet sometimes there is this bit of fog that likes to hover around our work. I am learning to chart when these times happen and I call it… “seed time.” Taking note on the things that manifest as I am progressing forward. I often have to stop and it comes to me. I’m a carrier. I am deep rich soil. I am always with child. I am a conceiver. I am always PREGNANT! I am always with seed. Not in the literal sense, but in the spiritual. Because I am NOT a person who prescribes to Western methods of birth control, I refuse to become like the “Little Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe.” The children are always around my door, yelling and playing, fussing and making up childish games. Asking for water and nutritious snacks. Then I stop to think of what happens when we become exposed to the reality of being  “Grown Ups.” This is a technique all in and of itself. This is what I call coming out of the fog.

The Universal Infinite Time

The fog… When we become adults… Most of us assume that when things get weird and clarity seems far away… We are in the center of a storm. The wind and turbulence has taken over and peacetime has a long road ahead. Since there is really no such thing as time, we have to acknowledge the matter of probability and stop waging war on the resistance. Knowing how to bend with the elements is how we determine our innate flexibility. Your power is in the elements of the universe. This is the most creative point of reference anyone can receive when feeling out of time. Balancing the waters of emotion is first and foremost. Remembering to breathe is being at one with the water. Kindling the flames of desire is how we burn those hard rocky clumps into precious gems. This is the basics of grounding your energy in the soil of this Earth in which you plant your visions and dreams. We are not just talking about manifesting money, houses, and cars here. We are talking about manifesting life itself in ALL it’s vastness and abundance. And the most abundant resource is human currency.

And Men All Looked Like Trees…

Understanding the fundamental principles of creation.

A wise man once told me that even a tree goes through adversity when it’s taking root from that tiny seed.

As we walk through the forest and view the trees, we remember they were once tiny seeds.  This is just the same as you and I. The same as an idea or a thought. Trees have an outer cover for protection, food and water inside to use for the first surge into growth, a part that has an affinity for water that will seek out the soil and become roots and a part with an affinity for light that will seek the sun and become leaves and branches.  Nature gives all seeds another characteristic. See any similarities in the human structure of childbirth?

While nature provides a seed all it needs to survive, she provides great opposition to survival.  From the beginning, each seed must compete with its neighbor for water, food, sunlight and space in which to grow.  Sound like any neighborhood you know? Trees produce thousands of seeds.  Very few grow to maturity.  In fact, from a start of 10,000 seedlings per acre at age one year, the final stand of mature trees may number less than 50. The Universe has an enlightening way of balancing the mortality of it’s creation so we must always give thanks.

Centering Thought

In order for ANY seed (a human, a tree, a thought) to sprout, develop, and manifest it must have food, water, sunlight and warmth (the elements).  Until it gets rooted, in the soil it can not come above ground… It can not be born.  As roots go deeper into the soil they absorb water and minerals from the soil and send these up into the stem. Wonder why “stem cells” are such an important commodity?

These act as a chemical laboratory.  In a process called photosynthesis, which takes place in the green leaves of a tree in the presence of chlorophyll and sunlight, the tree takes carbon dioxide from the air and manufactures starches and sugars and gives off oxygen as a waste product.  The formula is simple but the process has never been artificially duplicated. Too bad humans have this limitation. But do we? If all living things were able to photosynthesize like plant life, nothing would ever have to eat to survive… every living thing could manufacture its own food within its own body. There would be no need for teeth, no need for stomachs. But thankfully we are both duly unique and our processes keep us divinely connected to the fundamental principles of the Universe, thus women have the ability to produce milk from our own bodies, to feed our toothless babies, from the starchy, sugary, nutrient rich sap of our beautiful breasts.

Be Prepared To Learn

A Community Driven Initiative

GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION DRIVES THE SHE COMMUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL BACK TO SCHOOL BOOK BAG DRIVE

The InTune Mother “Be Prepared To Learn” CAMPAIGN

A community enrichment event tied to The Godby Rd Recreation Center, Annual Back 2 School Bash

The InTune Mother, College Park, Georgia

July 28st, 2014

On August 8th, 2014, The InTune Mother (TIM) along with management and residents at South Hampton Estates (SHE) hopes to demonstrate to hundreds of other school children around the College Park area a shared vision to empower communities through education in remote areas of Fulton County. The residents at South Hampton Estates are embarking on a “Be Prepared To Learn” campaign to broaden their cultural horizons and become members of a communal family dedicated to education.

How can one dollar prepare a child to learn? It doesn’t buy much in the Metro City of Atlanta. But in the  City of College Park, it can buy a pack of pencils, prepare a child for education, and transform a life. In a community where many odds are stacked against them, that pencil can empower a child to read, write, and learn. The InTune Mother’s program goal is to encourage children, who are ultimately our future leaders, to learn the value of philanthropy by collecting dollars for community empowerment.

South Hampton Estates’ students/residents will have an opportunity to study the culture of what community and leadership means by learning how to work and share together in the Be Prepared To Learn campaign, and come to understand their own capacity as philanthropists – one gift at a time.

The InTune Mother plans to use local and social media to bring awareness to the South Hampton Estates community at large. Our unique community consists of single moms, families, singles, foster families, college students, and seniors. A large population of the community are low-income, single mothers. The others are working families, but are still in economic hardship. It is our goal to assist these families, by engaging local media, businesses, and community driven organizations to help support these children. We already have a commitment for 25 book bags from the Godby Road Recreational Center, but in a community with more than 100 school age children, in economic hardship, though greatly appreciated, it is not enough. With your help, we can make a difference and help more children “Be Prepared To Learn” at the start of this school year, from a simple gift of $1700.

The gifts that The InTune Mother collects for South Hampton Estates students/residents can add up to make a real difference.

$1 = will gift a 10 pack of pencils

$2-3 = will gift a pack of pencils, pens, and notebook paper

$10  = will gift one book bag, pencils, pens, and 2 composition books

$20 = will gift one child’s school supplies for one semester

$50 = will gift one child’s school supplies for one year

$100 = will gift two children’s school supplies for one year

$300 = will gift students/residents two all-in-one printers (after school program)

$600 = will gift students/residents two desktop computers (after school program)

$1,700 = will gift 100 SHE students/residents resources for back school success

$5,000 = will gift SHE students/residents with a thriving community resource center (onsite)

$25,000 = School supplies and support for up to five years for (onsite) community resource center

The additional 100 children living at South Hampton Estates will be on the waiting list, hoping to receive their school supplies from our community driven initiative. The InTune Mother hopes to help build a bridge of support, one dollar at a time, offering alternatives to the cycle of poverty and economic hardship, thus activating more initiatives for surrounding communities as well.

Be Prepared To Learn (Back To School Drive)

GETTING STARTED

A good way to start is to know that in the end, hundreds of children will benefit at the start of this school year well equipped and ready to learn, thanks to you.

It is the goal of The InTune Mother to support the families of College Park, GA, starting @ South Hampton Estates. We are reaching out to you our family, friends, and colleagues to ask that you assist us in helping at least 100 families, with the purchase of book bags and school supplies.

With your help, we can alleviate this issue with a simple contribution of $17 per book bag (including supplies). – See more: CLICK HERE

There is no “one way” to support this initiative. Some cities have school buses collect or deliver supplies, others have drop off sites. Some supplies come in packages while others come fully assembled. While we are a small grassroots organization our social impact is needed. That is why we call you to action on today!

We have a simple system that has three basic steps:

  • Begin with the end vision in mind: Know who you want to serve? How you want to serve them? When you want to take action?
  • Recruiting help: By reaching out to you our readers and key organizations is the best way to drive home what we need to organize and collect supplies.
  • Execution of event: After we collect the supplies, we will sort them and deliver to the designated donation site.

Here is a suggested list of the supplies we will need:

School Supply List

 LET’S PUT IN WORK!

We ONLY have 1-week before the event close date so we must move quickly. I know that we can make a difference with your help.

If you would like to contribute by offering “in kind donations” from our supply list (i.e., book bags, pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, etc.) Then please feel free to contact us at:

info.intunemother@gmail.com or call us directly 770-580-3470 for the appropriate drop off location.

***Thank you for your support by assisting us, with giving these children the tools they need to be prepared, going back to school and ready to learn.

And as a special THANK YOU, we will add your name or the name of your business and logo to our Community Wall of Support.
