July 28st, 2014

On August 8th, 2014, The InTune Mother (TIM) along with management and residents at South Hampton Estates (SHE) hopes to demonstrate to hundreds of other school children around the College Park area a shared vision to empower communities through education in remote areas of Fulton County. The residents at South Hampton Estates are embarking on a “Be Prepared To Learn” campaign to broaden their cultural horizons and become members of a communal family dedicated to education.

How can one dollar prepare a child to learn? It doesn’t buy much in the Metro City of Atlanta. But in the  City of College Park, it can buy a pack of pencils, prepare a child for education, and transform a life. In a community where many odds are stacked against them, that pencil can empower a child to read, write, and learn. The InTune Mother’s program goal is to encourage children, who are ultimately our future leaders, to learn the value of philanthropy by collecting dollars for community empowerment.

South Hampton Estates’ students/residents will have an opportunity to study the culture of what community and leadership means by learning how to work and share together in the Be Prepared To Learn campaign, and come to understand their own capacity as philanthropists – one gift at a time.

The InTune Mother plans to use local and social media to bring awareness to the South Hampton Estates community at large. Our unique community consists of single moms, families, singles, foster families, college students, and seniors. A large population of the community are low-income, single mothers. The others are working families, but are still in economic hardship. It is our goal to assist these families, by engaging local media, businesses, and community driven organizations to help support these children. We already have a commitment for 25 book bags from the Godby Road Recreational Center, but in a community with more than 100 school age children, in economic hardship, though greatly appreciated, it is not enough. With your help, we can make a difference and help more children “Be Prepared To Learn” at the start of this school year, from a simple gift of $1700.

The gifts that The InTune Mother collects for South Hampton Estates students/residents can add up to make a real difference.

$1 = will gift a 10 pack of pencils

$2-3 = will gift a pack of pencils, pens, and notebook paper

$10  = will gift one book bag, pencils, pens, and 2 composition books

$20 = will gift one child’s school supplies for one semester

$50 = will gift one child’s school supplies for one year

$100 = will gift two children’s school supplies for one year

$300 = will gift students/residents two all-in-one printers (after school program)

$600 = will gift students/residents two desktop computers (after school program)

$1,700 = will gift 100 SHE students/residents resources for back school success

$5,000 = will gift SHE students/residents with a thriving community resource center (onsite)

$25,000 = School supplies and support for up to five years for (onsite) community resource center

The additional 100 children living at South Hampton Estates will be on the waiting list, hoping to receive their school supplies from our community driven initiative. The InTune Mother hopes to help build a bridge of support, one dollar at a time, offering alternatives to the cycle of poverty and economic hardship, thus activating more initiatives for surrounding communities as well.

Be Prepared To Learn (Back To School Drive)

GETTING STARTED

A good way to start is to know that in the end, hundreds of children will benefit at the start of this school year well equipped and ready to learn, thanks to you.

It is the goal of The InTune Mother to support the families of College Park, GA, starting @ South Hampton Estates. We are reaching out to you our family, friends, and colleagues to ask that you assist us in helping at least 100 families, with the purchase of book bags and school supplies.

With your help, we can alleviate this issue with a simple contribution of $17 per book bag (including supplies). – See more: CLICK HERE

There is no “one way” to support this initiative. Some cities have school buses collect or deliver supplies, others have drop off sites. Some supplies come in packages while others come fully assembled. While we are a small grassroots organization our social impact is needed. That is why we call you to action on today!

We have a simple system that has three basic steps:

  • Begin with the end vision in mind: Know who you want to serve? How you want to serve them? When you want to take action?
  • Recruiting help: By reaching out to you our readers and key organizations is the best way to drive home what we need to organize and collect supplies.
  • Execution of event: After we collect the supplies, we will sort them and deliver to the designated donation site.

Here is a suggested list of the supplies we will need:

***Thank you for your support by assisting us, with giving these children the tools they need to be prepared, going back to school and ready to learn.

Georgia Can Change The World of Childbirth

There Is No Magic Pill… Well What Is Magic Anyway?

The rates were included in a series of health statistics presented at a recent Department of Public Health board meeting.

Infant mortality is the number of infants dying before reaching their first birthday. Maternal mortality, defined by the World Health Organization, is the number of women who die during pregnancy and childbirth.

All Southeastern states have seen a decline in infant mortality, said Dr. Mitch Rodriguez, a Macon neonatologist and Public Health board member, in a presentation to the board.

Georgia’s rate dropped from 8.4 infant deaths per 1,000 live births from 2002 to 2006 to 7.3 deaths during the 2007-2011 period. That translates to more than 550 fewer infant deaths during the most recent period, he said.

“There is no magic pill to solve the problem,” Rodriguez said.

But then we have this…

Georgia Counties w: NO OB Services

Yet the state is pursuing several initiatives to help lower the rate, including a task force, community programs, and recognizing “baby-friendly” hospitals that promote breastfeeding.

The state has also lowered its premature birth rate by 17.7 percent from 2007 to 2011, Rodriguez said. Preterm birth is the leading cause of newborn death….

Get Prepared To Give Birth

Get InTuned To Healthy Childbirths

Homebirth 2007

The InTune Mother Project was founded by a husband and wife team, of home birthing artists, poets, parents, students, philanthropists, activists, advocates, and natural childbirth enthusiasts. Yes, we wear a lot of hat, but our goal is to empower moms and families about holistic prenatal care, the importance of home-birth preparation, InTune childbirths, exclusive breastfeeding, and how to apply for vital records for out of institution childbirths. Our goal is to help moderate to low-income families achieve a happy birthday for their new baby girl or boy.

It was like yesterday that my hubby and I were in our beautifully decorated home birthing sanctuary, about to receive our now 6-year old son RaMel into this world. Who knew at that time we would be hear assisting other moms and families with preparing for their own births. When asked what our role is, we prefer to be called childbirth companions or childbirth advocates. We are here for midwives and doulas. We are here for the mother, father, baby, and family as  accountability partners and consultants to what makes sure for a solid, happy, and communal relationship between all parties.

This partnership will allow mothers and birth workers to identify, with how they will serve each other, in the event of childbirth. This is so important to us because, with our second son Logan age – 4, we experienced a conflicting schedule, with our midwife. This was not favorable at the time, but we overcame all doubt, to complete a safe and secure unplanned unassisted birth.  Thankfully, we were well informed and confident enough that we were able to proceed with our birth and have yet another positive outcome.

Hey… We know all too well the complete spectrum around childbirth. From starting out with the traditional medical model thrown in our faces.  To becoming seekers of the truth, thus becoming informed, and thus giving birth to the empowerment that taught us how to keep the sacredness of our birth rights intact for future references. Now approaching our 3rd sons 1st year, we are proud to celebrate our 366th day with him and all of you. Our goal is to help facilitate for other families the needed tools to go deeper into themselves by awakening or supporting the power that also lives to thrive within them.

And this is how we passionately assist mothers and families to celebrate an informed, safe, happy and empowered birthday.
