Train With The InTune Mother Society

A Community Based Approach to Culturally Centered Perinatal Education

A Sustainable Community Perinatal Health Worker Training

Are you interested in supporting women and families from preconception, pregnancy, and throughout postpartum?

The InTune Mother Society aims to expand our reach and provide training for underserved/underrepresented women living within Oklahoma County and surrounding areas. We are offering a three(3) month training which includes preconception education, birth doula, postpartum care, basic breastfeeding support, and childbirth education. We work through an intentional lens of healing justice, by identifying with the need to offer innovative ways and solutions to eliminate racial disparities among marginalized childbearing populations. In doing so we have designed this program to show how we can holistically respond to and intervene on generational trauma and violence and to bring collective practices that can impact and transform the consequences of oppression on our culture, heritage, traditions, bodies, hearts and minds as it relates to community based care. We believe we can impact preconception, pregnancy, birth, and ability to parent in a sustainable way. At The InTune Mother Society, we believe that it is the right of every birthing mother to have culturally sound support and education from preconception to postpartum. Because many of the moms we serve, see several different providers during their pregnancy, we recognized the lack of continuity of care. Our Sustainable Community Perinatal Health Workers program offers preconception, nature based contraception care, childbirth education, birth doula, postpartum care, and breastfeeding support for each client served as a way to ensure there is a continuity of support for at least one year and one day (366 days of care). Each participant is assigned a CPHW and they are with the childbearing family from the time of entering the program until completion.

We are currently offering three (3) high impact training opportunities for 20 women per training, three (3) times a year, beginning February 7th, 2020 to sustain our community based perinatal health program. We will offer three (3) partial scholarships for those in economic hardship for each training launch (a $375 deposit is required to qualify for partial scholarship). In exchange for the cost of training, we require a one year commitment of service for which there is a per client and per childbirth class compensation to which we provide a nominal stipend (details given upon registration). After one year, commitments may be renewed and compensation will continue for your service.

Overview of the Community Perinatal Health Worker Program

This (12-week) community based course is for anyone who wants to make a difference in the way families experience preconception, conception, childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum, and childrearing. Whether you are already familiar with the field of perinatal health or maternal and child health, working for an organization or institution that wants to increase its social impact regarding perinatal health in vulnerable communities, or just starting out on a new career path, this training opportunity will take you on a journey of exploring the complex problems that surround us and how to start thinking about solutions through social art practice and healing justice for childbearing families.

  • Pathways Community Based Perinatal Health Worker (3-Day/18-hour)
  • Holistic Childbirth Education (12-hour prerequisite for DONA Certification)
  • Community Based Birth Doula Certification via DONA International (3-Day/24-hour)

In this community based training, together will debunk common assumptions around what resources are needed to begin acting as a social innovator for perinatal health promotion. We will learn from the numerous examples of social art practices and innovations happening all over the world, with a mission to make maternal and child health services equitable and accessible for all. You will be challenged to get out of your comfort zone and start engaging with the diverse spaces around you. By the end of the training, you will have formed a collective approach to perinatal health innovation through performance based education, leading with birth work through healing justice. Thus you will develop the concepts, mindset, skills, and relationships that will enable you to sustain a movement and evolve as a community centered, perinatal health, change-maker.
